Pot hole lakes at Elstad landscape conservation area

Nearly eleven thousand years ago, the ice started withdrawing at the end of the last ice age. At this point the glacier front lay across Romerikssletta. This created a soil geology that have international conservation value.

The many pot hole lakes in the area are unique, providing habitats for a rich flora and fauna. Pot hole lakes in Romerike has features from both calcareous lakes and rich farmland lakes. Elstad landscape conservation area was established on 17 December 1999 and covers an area of ​​7605 acres. The area marks the outline of Northern Europe's largest groundwater reservoirs, beneath Gardermoen.
