stone ring

Situated along Gudbrandsdalsleden
Archaeological memory. Stone ring from the Iron Age. The southern stone circle is consisting of 11 stones.

There are two stone rings in Mosmoen, and they are located at the visible remnants of the old King kings road. Stone rings are ancient tombs, usually of a person who was cremated. The burial custom is rare in this country, and dates from the era 200 to 600 AD. The largest stone circle, located on a cultivated islet has 11 stones, while the other, located between the old road and the new road has 9 stones. Such stone rings usually have an odd number of stones, 5, 7, 9, etc. The number has probably had a religious or magical significance.
