Grønn = Enkel

Blå = Middels

Rød = Krevende

Svart = Ekstra krevende

Day 1: (23 km) Singsås – Samatun

The first stage of the Pilgrimage starts at Singsås Station. The first destination on a journey will be the Stave Church in Singsås north of the station. (You can follow the Rørosveien road straight out of Singsås, if you do not want to visit the stave church). The old church site probably had a standing church here as early as 800 years ago. The pilgrim route follows the asphalt road until you get off on a gravel road hading north. After walking approx 5 km on a gravel road past Øfsti Digre, one must take a clear marked path on the left side of the road . The trail goes through forests and over wetlands partly along the river Sevilla, before you finally reach Sevilltjønna (smal lake) at the foot of Burufjellet. But for today's break, we recommend that you head up to the Pilgrim cabin by Okstjønna. For tired pilgrims, this can be a great option for lodging. You end the day by moving over Samsjøvollen, with Samsjøen lake on the right side of the trail. The last part over Samsjøvollan is on high mountains with limited mobile coverage. Then it carries down to Samatun, and the pilgrim's first (or second) overnight stay on the trip.

Day 2: (28 km) Samatun - Kirkflå

The longest stage of the hike will lead pilegrims through hilly forest and marsh terrain, typical for the region of Trøndelag. In this area there are several interesting cultural-historical sites where the trail passes close. First you come to St. Olavsknippen, a place notorious for its old myths and legends. After passing Austtjønna, the trail goes along a gravel road down towards Fremo. Along this gravel road there are small stages that follow the old Rangåveien, an idyllic old clover road that can provide some relief from walking on hard gravel road. Some distance along the gravel road, you come to Heimvollen. Here it is possible to get accommodation approx. 10km before accommodation in the smithy at Kirkflå if needed. Furthermore, the trail goes past Fremo Camp and to Kirkflå. Kirkflå has been of great importance to the inhabitants of Melhus throughout history, and was once the church site of the municipality.

Day 3: (15 km) Kirkflå - Rødde

The day starts steep and marshy. But after a few km, it flattens out and it becomes easier to walk. The pilgrim route passes over the mountain by Øyvindtjønna (smal lake) at the highest point of the stage. At Øyvindtjønna there was a chapel in the Middle Ages. Close by runs the St. Even's spring, which the stories tell had miraculous water. For Østerdalsleden, this place is also called Feginsbrekka (joy hill), since this is the first place where it is possible to spot Nidaros Cathedral, the pilgrim's final destination for the journey. At Øyvindtjønna there is also a small cabin / seal house with 2 briskets, no mattress / cooking facilities. From the top, it carries down through the forest to Rødde Folk High School.

Day 4: (18 km) Rødde - Trondheim

The day starts on a paved road uphill before getting off on a gravel road after a roundabout. From here, the trail mostly follows gravel roads and paths through cultural landscapes down to the Nidelven. Then follows the last section of the Østerdalsleden along Nidelven river. Along the way, the pilgrim will reach Upper and Lower Leirfoss. Old power plants, which have supplied the Trondheim region with electricity. From Nedre Leirfoss, the trail follows a "green oar" along the river into the city center. Finally, the trail goes in an urban environment, past Lerkendal, St. Olav hospitals and finally over Elgseterbrua bridge with a great view to Nidaros Cathedral and the end of the journey.

We hope you visit the pilgrim reception at Nidaros Pilegrimsgård, so that we can register you as a pilgrim, give you the last stamps in your passport and a badge that gives you free admission to Nidaros Cathedral as pilgrim.
