Pilgrim Center Hamar is a meeting point, beautifully situated by Lake Mjøsa and Domkirkeodden, where there once was the medieval town, Hamarkaupangen. You are welcome to stop by!

This visitor and information centre is one of six regional centers at the Gudbrandsdalsleden. The center provides guidance and helps to facilitate pilgrimage walks through the Hamar region

Historic location

The Pilgrim Center and Domkirkeodden are located on the remains of the only inland medieval town in Norway. It was the site of Hamar Cathedral, the Bishop's castle, Saint Olav's monastery, a herb garden, hospital and school. The ruins of the cathedral is now protected by a structure of glass and steel. “The glass cathedral” is still a natural hub for pilgrim walks. (Foto: Ana Isabel Sauter)

Pilgrim Center Hamar offers events, guided tours, walks, meetings and lectures throughout the year. If you want to walk on your own, the trail through the Hamar region is both well marked and easily accessible.

About Pilgrim Center Hamar

Pilgrim Center Hamar has several roles. The main task is to provide guidance to pilgrims and facilitate pilgrimages.

The center also contributes to the development of business activities along the trail in the Hamar region. In an environmentally friendly and gentle way, we will contribute to a sustainable tourism, through various local walks, events and activities. The development of the Pilgrim trail takes place in close collaboration with the center's partners, which are the municipalities, the county, the Church, cultural life, voluntary groups and societies, museums and businesses.

From 9 -16, every day.


Outside the main season:
Monday - Friday from 9-16. Sometimes we are out of the office, so feel free to contact us for an appointment.


If you plan to arrive at the center (the accomodation) outside the opening hours during the main season, please contact us by phone or email.

You are welcome to drop by over a cup of coffee, for guidance on pilgrimage, purchase of pilgrim passes, guide books, etc.

Price accommodation:NOK 350 per person. Shared shower/toilet. Self-catering. Wifi. Bed linen and towels included.
Distance:2,1 kilometers to Hamar train station. Free bike rental. 1 kilometer to shopping mall.
