Welcome to the Borgleden trail!
The name Borg is linked to Olav's heritage and the town of Sarpsborg, which Olav Haraldsson founded in 1016. Olav Haraldsson died in the Battle of Stiklestad in 1030, about one year later Olav was declared a saint, Olav den hellige. Along Pilgrimsleden you will encounter a rich and long history that stretches from the Bronze Age, with petroglyphs and other ancient monuments, to the Viking Age, medieval churches, manor houses, city centers and museums. Borgleden starts at the Swedish border at Elgåfoss in Halden and continues through the regions Østfold and Follo, lush and varied cultural landscapes. The trail is easily accessible and easy to walk.
