During the second world war the Germans used Trandum Forest a place for executions - nearly 200 people lost their lives here.

In all, 176 Norwegians, 15 Russians and six Englishmen were executed by the Germans at Trandum Forest. They were shot and buried in mass graves. Today Trandum forest is a national monument.

Many were sentenced to death by the Germans, but many were also executed without trial. In May 1945 the mass grave were discovered. After the war, national treason prisoners and leading NS-men were used during the exhumation of the graves.

Today it is a monument raised over those executed in Trandum Forest during the Second World War. By the entrance to the forest you will find a memorial monument and name board, and the graves in the forest are marked.

In the forest there is also a shooting range for tanks, built during the war (shown in the photo).

Trandum Forest is located approx. 2 km off the trail, west of Hersjøen.
