Torgalsåsen bygdeborg (hill-top fort)
When you walk along the Pilgrim Way near Berby Mansion, you’ll see a steep hill rising above the farm. On the top, there are remains of fortifications, probably dating from the Early Iron Age.

There are hill-top forts all over Norway, but no one really knows their original purpose. Some believe that the forts have been used as refuges during troubled times, other see them more as guard posts. The Pilgrim Way doesn’t go all the way up the hill, but if you dare climb the top, you’ll be rewarded with an amazing view of the area. More information about the hill-top fort on Torgalsåsen can be found at the sign by the Pilgrim Way.
