Tautra Mariakloster is a monastery of nuns in the Cistercian (Trappist) Order. The first nuns came in 1999, and the new monastery was completed in 2006.

The two houses the nuns lived in while the new monastery was being built, are now used as a guesthouse. The nuns sing the Liturgy of the Hours 7 times a day and earn their living by producing herbal soaps, balsam and skin creams. A visitor’s center with an exhibit on Cistercian life and the monastery shop is open every week day during the summer season.

Pilgrims should announce their arrival - preferably the day before - by phone +47 75 80 85 51 between 10.00 and 17.00. 9:30 am and 12 noon or 2 p.m. 15.00 - 19.00. Optionally you can send SMS to +47 406 72 655.

We offer accommodation in the guesthouse, if space is available. Pilgrims must arrive before 9 p.m. (We request supper / supper at 9.30 pm) Guests can use the shower on the ground floor and make supper and breakfast in the kitchen, where food is available. We celebrate Catholic Mass at 1 p.m. 08.10 on weekdays, 09.00 on Sundays. Our fairs and prayers are open to all.

Pilgrims must leave by noon the next day, but may attend noon prayer / noon at noon. If using linen, please change bed linen for next guest. See the website for further information.

Evening meals / breakfast are included in the gift for your stay (eg NOK.50, -). It should be quiet in the houses after 20:30.

Pilgrims who want to stay with us for more than one night are asked to pay a daily price of a total of NOK 700,- (350,- for accommodation and 350,- for the food).

In the high season the guesthouse is often full and we cannot offer dinner, but you can buy dinner at Klostergården 2 km's walk from the monastery.

We have Catholic Mass at 8:10 a.m. (9:00 on Sundays). All are welcome.

Accomodation is reserved for pilgrims.
