The two houses where the nuns lived while the new monastery was being built, are now used as a guesthouse. The nuns sing the Liturgy of the Hours seven times a day and earn their living by producing herbal soaps, balms and skin creams. A visitor’s center with an exhibition on Cistercian life and the monastery shop is open everyday of the week during the summer season.
We offer accommodation in the guesthouse if it's open and there is space. Pilgrims must book in advance, preferably the day before, as we do not always have room. This can be done via gjest@tautra.no or via phone: 74 80 85 51 between 10.00 - 12.00 or 15.00 - 17.00. Alternatively, you can send an SMS to 406 72 655.
Pilgrims must arrive before 19:00 (doorbell at the door to the left of the church) and it must be quiet in the houses after 20.30. Guests can use the shower on the ground floor and prepare supper and breakfast in the kitchen. We celebrate Catholic Mass at 08.10 on weekdays and at 09.00 on Sundays. Our masses and prayers are open to everyone. Pilgrims must check out by 12:00 the next day, but can attend dinner prayer at 12.15. When using our bed linen, please change it for the next guest. See also the website.
The price for one night is NOK 200 for bed and shower and use of kitchen. Supper and breakfast can be booked in advance for NOK 200
If you want food for an extra day or to stay an extra night, it costs NOK 525 for accommodation and NOK 425 for all meals.
In high season, the guesthouse is often full, and we can not offer dinner, but you can buy dinner at Klostergården 2 km walk from the monastery.
This accommodation offer only applies to pilgrims.
