The hostel offers 12 beds and a 4 person tent + access to all facilities (kitchen, common space, bathroom, extra WC, pilgrim literature, Wi-Fi, terrace, garden and bicycles). It is a short walk down to the centre of town, as well as the forst and Brydedammen, where you can enjoy the sunset and a view over the city. Pilgrims can borrow a key, but are asked to keep noise down over night (from 22:00 - 08:00)
Pilgrimsherberget specializes in homemade sourdough bread, rose marmalade made from the archipelago's wild roses, lavender ice cream and Olavsknuter with cinnamon (the only ones of its kind along the Tunsbergleden). The host also serves five o'clock tea with the house's homemade cookies. If you wish, a 4-course pilgrim's dinner can be prepared (soup, main course, salad, dessert - you pay only for the courses you want; se above). Dinner must be ordered in advance and is usually served at 8pm - please inform us of any allergies when ordering. The hostel focuses on healthy and sustainable food.
The hosts can speak 7 different languages and are happy to help to plan the journey ahead og sightseeing in the local area. The hostel sells pilgrim passports, maps, stage overview, scallop shells, the Olav symbol, walking sticks etc. The hostel also has its own pilgrim stamp (as well as whale stickers for children).
The hostel is in close proximity to all the city's attractions such as the Whaling Museum, shops, eateries, Gaia's Viking boat workshop, Gokstadhaugen, etc. The hostel is located only 10 min walk from the train and bus station, 15 min walk from the ferry port with connection to Strømstad in Sweden, 20 min drive to another ferry port with connection to Europe, and a 10 minute drive to Torp international airport. Transport to and from the airport can be arranged if needed.
