At the path
Here, the Pilgrim Way follows a hollow way, or a sunken road. Hollow ways are furrows in the ground made by people and animals walking the same path for many years. Their footprints have worn down the ground and created a ditch, which can still be spotted today. Hollow ways are hard to date, but they are often found leading to Iron Age burials. They are therefore not unlikely just as old as the burials. At Smedhusåsen, you can literally wander in the footprints of the medieval pilgrims!
