Sigstad farm

Sigstad farm is first mentioned in 1345. However burial mounds indicate earlier settlement. The farm has had various functions as a catholic rectory, a post office (1658) and a guest house (1663).

About the area: Between Biri and lower Gudbrandsdalen the substratum consists of an alternation of dark sandstones and shale layers that are 2-3000 m thick and deposited in deep water. Just north of Biri's a rare rock consisting of small round stones of gneiss, granite and quartzite cemented together into a conglomerate known as the Biskopåskonglomeratet, named after a hill on the other side of the lake.
