The coin finding in Græsli

Situated along Romboleden
One of the biggest coin findings in Norway was found in Græsli in 1878. The treasure contained 2,253 medieval silver coins, some silver pieces and a bird figure in silver; The Græsli bird.

The coins were found on the Græsli farm during potato hilling on a spot where there had once been a heap of rocks. The Græsli discovery is our most important source of knowledge about Olav Kyrre's extensive minting in Norway from 1067 until 1093.
