Kvernes at Averøy

Kvernes at Averøy has through the years been an important religious and cultural center for large parts of Møre. Kvernes with its ideal location and its unique history is a natural place to stop for those who are passing through.

There have been made rich archeological findings that indicates an early settlement. The Kverne area has graves that gives an insight into 4000 years of burial customs. Håkon the Good had a feast hall built in Møre, and much points to that it was located on Kvernes.

Kvernes stave church from the 14th century is one of the most visited stave churches in the country. The stave church is open for guided tours throughout the summer. Close to the stave church, you'll find Kvernes New Church from 1893.

Kvernes has the largest village museum in Nordmøre with a large seafaring section that is also open throughout the summer. It is also possible to book dining and guided tours of the museum all year round.

Klippen is a house from 1927 located just by the churches and a great place for basic meals. This must be booked beforehand.

Kvernes Church is a culture church and it houses 9-10 concerts in the summer season, so make sure to have a look what is happing in the church when you are visiting!
