At the path

The area Stor-Ihle – Jevanol is an area with calcareous earth and a very old settlement.

Numerous barrows are located in the area, and discoveries from older Iron Age and the Viking Age have been made. Kongevegen (the king’s road) went below it, and on Stor-Ihle there was a coaching house from 1675-1769.

By north-Jevanovel is Brattbakken, a sunken road that have been left untouched for many generations, and as a part of the old Kongevegen (king’s road). A sunken road (link) is created by horses and riders, which have during a long period of time haveto dug into the ground. Rainwater has washed away the fine masses in steep terrain and the sunken road becomes especially evident. Here you can get an idea about the standards of roads in the middle Ages.

By Sandtjernet closer to Brumunddal the road passed by a moist area, and there according to tradition it shall be wooden plank bridges. It was made wooden breeds across the road so that one could walk and ride somewhat safely and dry shod the road. Today these are overgrown and gone.

Both the history about the wooden plank bridges and the sunken road tells us that the traffic artery here is very old and that pilgrims have probably trudged through here.
