Homla Nature Reserve and Storfossen

Situated along St. Olavsleden

Storfossen is one of Trøndelag's highest untouched waterfalls (about 40 m), and the environment that occurs as a result of the mist makes a good habitat for red-listed lichen and moss species.

Storfossen is part of the Homla Nature Reserve, which has been created to secure protection for endangered and near endangered species and habitats. Some of the registered species are "coastal rainforest species". The ancient forest on both sides of the river Homla represents a valuable natural habitat. The nature reserve is varied and also has great value as a cultural landscape, for outdoor activities, public health and the experience of cultural heritage related to, among other things, timber flooding.

No species and habitats shall be eradicated in this area, and the conditions for endangered species and habitats must be improved. In addition, the protection of the area contributes to fulfilling international goals. Norway has an international responsibility for the conservation of coastal spurce forests and continental forest hedges.
