Hamar city center

Hamar is both a city and a municipality

The city was founded in 1849 and soon became a commercial hub. The Diocese of Hamar was established in 1864 and covers the churches in the county of Innlandet.

The city has a rich and varied cultural life. It was one of the host cities during the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer. The largest industry in Hamar is the service industry with a wide range of shops, restaurants, hotels and night life. Hamar is also well connected in terms of roads and railway.
