Hamar city center
It was founded in 1849 and became a central commercial center. The Diocese of Hamar was established in 1864 and covers the churches in the county of Innlandet.
The city has a rich and varied cultural life. It was one of the host cities during the 1994 Olympics in Lillehammer. The main industries are in service with a large selection of stores, independent shops and boutiques, accommodation, cafés and restaurants. Hamar is an important transport hub for both bus and railway.
