Gildesvollen is a listed farm estate with a long history. It was a pagan sanctuary in the centuries before Christianity was adopted, an administrative centre in the middle ages, assisting cemetery in the 19th century and the village school during the 20th century.

Today the Dutch-Norwegian hosts Tom Skansår Borgersen and Janke Meijer lives here. They manage the site by combining various crafts and production such as handicrafts, wood carving and the production of honey, as well as being mostly self-sufficient and providing accommodation for pilgrims.

Gildesvollen has 8 beds, shared bedrooms/dormitory and opportunities for self-catering. Shops in Fåvang 9 km before Gildesvollen, and Ringebu If large groups wish to spend the night, they may accommodate up to 20 people upon request. Accommodation is exclusively for pilgrims.

This hostel is accredited and recommended by the National Pilgrim Centre. It has met the same requirements, and holds the same standard, as the pilgrim accommodation along Camino de Santiago and Via Francigena.
