Gjøvik manor

Medieval manor on the Hunn river where it flows into Mjøsa. Through centuries connected with evolving industry in what was to become Gjøvik city. Present buildings with park from early 19th century, formally protected and used for cultural activities and recreation. Gjøvik farm's buildings, gardens and parks are unique facilities of national importance with high cultural and architectural value.

The main building was built in the classical style of empire (1810) with interior from two generations from 1860 to 1956. It is today used for representation and tours.

"Drengestua", dated 1811, has been used for brewery and has housed a bakery oven. Today Drengestua is used for exhibitions and cafe. From1810 Gjøvik farm became the residence of glass factory owner Caspar Kauffeldt. The farm was donated by General Warcommissioner Alf Mjøen to Gjøvik Municipality in 1952.

Gjøvik farm has a full landscaped garden with a 200 year old history. In addidition, it has a landscape park with large trees, creeks and a garden pavilion; - which makes it particular in a cultural context. Guided tours by appointment with Mjøsmuseet tel: 91170500.
