Fåvang church

Fåvang church was built in the years 1627-1630 as a cruciform church with parts from a stave church from the 1100s.

Fåvang stave church was rebuilt and extended into a cruciform church, mostly by materials from earlier demolished stave churches in the valley. Most likely a stave church on the site has also been used. The oldest parts dates back to around 1150 to 1250. The church has been through several modifications and was restored in the period 1949 to 1951. Because of it's modifications it is not considered to be a stave church.

There is a strong oral tradition in the village that says this medieval stave church was located near Prestangen in the hillside above today's church. This stave church was served by the priest Sira Amundær in Fodvange and is mentioned in 1334.

The church is located about a kilometer from pilgrim route.
