People have lived in this area since the Viking Age. The farm has a history as far back as the 17th century and it was the ideal sea farm. Those who lived in the area in the olden days had their work on the farm, they went out fishing and several have been skippers on sailing ships. A short walk from the farm takes you up to Mølleråsen. At the top you will find the farm's mill, which was built in the beginning of the 19th century, and was probably one of the first in Sandefjord. There is a great view to the south and the large foundation stones are still there, containing the history of what was. On a path below the mill, you will also find the foundation stones from the miller boy's house.
Kristin Havsjømoen and Tom Aarøe are owners and hosts at Engøy Gjestegård. They bought the farm in 2013 and have had a major restoration job with the brewery from the early 18th century with the original baking oven that is still in use today. Inside, the historical character has been taken care of and refurbished so that you experience the history of this building.
