John Gjevik memorial monument

Situated along Gudbrandsdalsleden
On the 17th July 1944 a young man named John Gjevik was executed by German soldiers, while searching for Russian prisoners.

Gjevik was 21 years old and worked on the nearby farm of Elstad. He was standing on the side of the road, chatting to a neighbor when he was shot dead by German soldiers. The soldiers were searching for Russian prisoners of war that had escaped. The memorial stone was erected in 1946 on the site Gjevik was shot.
