Hoff Church was originally built as a basilica between 1150 and 1200, dedicated to the Apostle Andrew. The church was similar to the Cathedral in Hamar, St. Nicholas Church in Gran, the Gamle Aker Church in Oslo and Ringsaker Church. The prototype for all these churches were the Hallvard's Cathedral in the Old Town in Oslo.

Hoff Church was later converted into a long church in limestone. The church has been restored several times, in 1508, 1703 and in 1952. The church was extensively reconstructed in 1703. The tower and nave were removed, a new tower was built and the walls built higher.
